Bay Flats Lodge Report
By Captain Chris Martin
7/31-Fishing Report
This report came in from Captain Harold. Fished today from the boat working the same real estate from the previous day while throwing live bait. My party of two with Stan W. and guests were able to land 18-trout to twenty inches and 6-reds to twenty six inches we also caught a bonus flounder today. Receding tides have these fish staged on grass beds next to open pockets.
Captain David worked hard with Craig P. and guests on day-2 to show them “Who’s your daddy?” According to David, (I stayed put, and didn’t wonder over the bay system, especially with all the boat traffic on Saturday, it paid off.”
Captain Terry had huge compliments from his anglers with the Iron Man church group. They picked up 18-trout and near limits of reds while working together. Captain Steve also did very well with his guys from the church group. Despite hitting a crab trap early in the morning that jacked up his prop and shaft, Captain Steve was able to put the crew on an impressive catch for not being able to motor around. My hats off to you for pulling this off.
Captain Nathan had boat anglers and requested wade fisherman with artificial lures. The guys in the boat managed to pick up both trout & reds, but the anglers getting wet struggled to locate fish. According to Murray, “The water was very hot.” Captain Jason fished the Scott T. party, and speaking of party, his crew stayed up to 3:30 AM playing poker. Fishing was a struggle for his group; they were in early with double digits. Captain Cooper never checked in with his group to let me know how he did, so we no report for him. Captain TJ went from full limits of trout and reds on day-1 with Craig P. to having to peck out a box of fish on day-2. The lodge welcomes 16-guests in for the remainder of the weekend. The tides have dropped since Friday due to southwest winds. Water temperatures are in the high eighty degree range.
